Senna

Parts used are the leaves and pods. The pods contain 25% more cathartic principle than the leaflets, and have no resin or volatile oil. They are non-nauseous to the most delicate stomach. Senna is a somewhat prompt cathartic that acts on nearly the entire intestinal tract, and especially the lower bowel (colon, large intestine), so it is very suitable in cases of habitual costiveness and constipation. It acts locally on the intestinal wall, increasing peristaltic movements and intestinal secretions.

The ailments for Senna have been traditionally used for treating chronic constipation, dyspepsia, disordered stomach, biliousness, jaundice, eruptive diseases, diphtheria, fevers, and fissure ani.
